Goals
The primary goal of the Technology Development Platform is to identify new technology development opportunities through direct links with clinicians and researchers in British Columbia hospitals and research labs. Resources are available to do proof of concept work on emerging ideas and a key goal is to deliver high quality prototypes that can be used to demonstrate clinical efficacy towards broader uptake and commercialization.
The Platform’s second goal is to maintain and grow a cross-disciplinary network of researchers working in technology development in BC. Connecting engineers with life scientists and with each other is extremely valuable for sharing information and understanding broad trends in the field. The Platform hosts continuing meetings for knowledge exchange and with Genome BC has developed the Technology Development Initiatives Fund to support promising technologies throughout the local biomedical device development community.
The third goal is to enhance training for student engineers. The Platform will explore the creation of a permanent biomedical device incubator connecting engineering students with clinicians and projects. The Platform is also developing training materials for rapid prototyping based on the knowledge and experience of our network members.
